A Routine Screening Saved His Life: A Spring Firefighter’s Cancer Story

In 2016, Spring Fire Department made annual health screenings mandatory for every member of their organization — from volunteers to full-time firefighters to admin staff. For firefighter Matt Corso, that decision saved his life. Twenty minutes into his first screening, an ultrasound technician found something unusual. What followed was a biopsy, a diagnosis of stage two testicular cancer, four months of chemotherapy, and an outpouring of support from the Spring Fire family that Matt never expected. This is his story.
